Neighbour
Yeah, that sounded right. As such, you walked to the door, opening it and finally leaving your house. The first thing you noticed was a heavy, comfortable breeze around you.
“That’s nice…”
The second thing that you noticed was a couple right in front of you. A cat lady and a dog man. They were both looking at you, though the man was also watering some plants, so it wasn’t like he only paid attention to you.
“Mornin’, ma’am.” He waved at you.
“Oh, morning to you two!” And naturally, you waved back at him. Talking with him was nice, honestly.
Yeah, you could be friendly with your neighbors. That wouldn’t be much of an issue, if it’d be an issue at all.
“Howdy there.” Now it was the cat that was talking to you. She seemed friendly. “You wore a suit too, didn’t ya?”
Right, all of these people used to be humans, just like you. Made sense they would know about what happened.
…Yeah, you hadn’t talked to any of them before. As far as first impressions went, you were sure that this one was just fine.
“Aye. I put on a cow suit. Used to be a guy.”
If you all were sharing, then you figured you might as well give them all the details that you felt important enough for them to know. And besides, they were more experienced in this than you.
“Really? Sameeee.” The cat purred. She laughed a bit, which you found oddly adorable.
Next up was the dog. “And I was a girl before.”
They all changed their genders? Man, that was so cool. And it felt natural, somehow. You didn’t know if this experience would ever change how you felt about yourself once it was over, but maybe it was something to take into consideration.
Either way, right now you had some friends to make. How hard could that be?
Which meant figuring out how to talk to them.
“So, after becoming a cow, I kinda figured that I like baking. Funny how that works, huh?”
“Really?” And now the dog was wagging his tail. Excitement! “You wouldn’t be the first. Something about this place inspires people. I found out I like gardening. Botany, I mean.”
The cat purred before replying to her partner. “He never liked it before!”
“Seriously? What about you, miss…”
“Dahlia.” She answered with a smile. “I dunno, it felt like the proper name to use once I got here.”
“A new name, too?”
You blinked. They weren’t kidding when they said the place changed them. But, well, it wasn’t bad. Finding out things you didn’t know about yourself was always a pleasure.
In your case, you were pretty sure it was just the love of baking. Which, now that you thought about it, you really should make another cake and give them it.
Yeah, ignoring the fact you ate the previous one. Oops.
