I liked the idea, and while the transformations may be lacking they serve the story and I cannot think of a way to add or remove without major changes
The big let down is the plot. It feels more like a collection of ideas that are not explored then a real story.
Overall it reads more like a draft of a story then needs editing to focus on what it wants to be
