Overall this would be a 4 story except for a few drawbacks
Transformation wise this story feels like it could easily be written without the transformation. Most of the time they are in human forms, and their is very little exploration of what is different when they are in animal form. The choice of species gets a few points, not as much as if they were sphinxes but still a few.
Plot wise I had a few minor cases of losing track of who was who. This is enough for it to go from a low 4 to a high 3.
Overall I enjoyed it, and would possibly read a sequel
