Strange Happenings star star star star star

Midnight. They always came at midnight. The chimes from the old grandfather clock in the den jolted Daniel out of his restless dreams. It wasn't the chimes that woke him so much as the knowledge that They were coming. It was the same horrifying ritual, every single night.

The room was illuminated by an eerie pale green glow. Three figures in haz-mat suits stood around his bed. One of them held a large briefcase, another held a gun, and the third--the apparent leader, from the way he acted--was making entries into a large handheld computer. Daniel tried to escape, to run, to even move, but some unseen force held him in place, as immobile as the bed itself. The leader looked up from his computer and signaled to the one holding the briefcase, who set the case down and began to open it. Daniel strained to see its contents, but couldn't from his position. If only he could move...

The leader reached forward, grabbed the bedcovers and--

The shrill blast of Daniel's alarm clock filled the room. He'd had that dream again, the same one he'd been having every night for nearly a month. Except that it didn't feel like a normal dream. It felt more like a memory, but one that had been partially forgotten. Anyway, Dan had more important things to worry about, so he pushed whatever it was aside for the moment. Today was the last day of school, finally. All he had to do was survive his last few final exams, and he'd be home free. He wasn't about to let a creepy dream get him down.

Dr. DiCaoz glanced over his biology classroom. "Is anybody still working on the final?" he asked tiredly. He paused for a moment, then said, "If everybody is finished, you may talk quietly amongst yourselves for the remainder of the period." As the class erupted in chatter, he went back to nursing his hangover.

Daniel loved his biology class. It wasn't just that he was good at it, or that it was the last class of the day. By some bit of luck or fate, he happened to be in the same class as his four closest friends, Gassan, David, Pammy, and Jake. Gassan, David, and Pammy had become absurdly popular since coming to high school. Gassan was Lebanese and therefore "exotic," David was a star swimmer, and Pammy was a cheerleader. In retrospect, popularity was an inevitability. To the other popular kids, Jake an avid follower of the Furry subculture (he called it a craze, but nobody else did) and Daniel, the introspective writer, were social liabilities. Still, Gassan, David, and Pam never let their newfound "friends" keep them away from Jake and Dan. Privately, Daniel was grateful that he had managed to befriend the four people who appeared to be immune to high school drama.

"So, what'd you guys think?" Pammy whispered.

"I'm pretty sure Dr. Di is a nutcase," Gassan answered quickly. He was met with a chorus of approval from his companions.

"Anyway," Pam continued, "are we having our annual Thank-God-The-Schoolyear's-Over party tonight?"

"I can't go," Jake said, "I've got a convention."

"I can't go either," said David, "My dad's taking me camping. He's on a back-to-nature kick."

"I'm visiting my grandma," Gassan said. Pammy rolled her eyes.

"Alright," she sighed, "when do you guys get back?"

"Sunday"

"Sunday evening"

"Sunday, but it'll be late."

"So," Pammy continued, "is Monday night alright with everyone?"

***

The days passed quickly. By the time Monday arrived, he had gone an entire weekend without his mysterious dreams. He was mostly relieved, but part of him wished the visitors would come back so he could find out what they were up to.

The streets were charged with an eerie calm. A summer storm was coming. As Daniel reached Pam's door, he couldn't help but feel a strange foreboding. Something was decidedly wrong. He rang the bell.

"Come in," called Pammy. Dan opened the door and found friend sitting on the floor in a tidy circle. They were all staring at him, an unsettling hunger in their eyes. "We are playing Truth or Dare," Pammy intoned mechanically. "Please, join us. Truth or Dare?"

"Please choose Dare," Gassan said, in the same unearthly voice.

"The Truth is never any fun," agreed David, still in the same tone. Throughout the exchange, none of the four took their eyes off of Daniel.

"Is everything alright?" he asked. "You all seem...different."

Pammy answered in the same monotone as before: "We are collectively unnerved at a series of recurring dreams we have been having. Perhaps you too are experiencing these visions?"

"Yeah," Dan said, "but I'm not acting that weird about it."

"Perhaps," Pammy said, "All will be made more clear if you answer this simple question: Truth...or Dare?"

Daniel took a deep breath and figured his friends were just messing with him. The bit about the dream had certainly caught his attention, but he decided to play along for a while.

"Well then, I chose Truth." Said Daniel as he sat in the floor next to Jake and David.
"Tell us your name." Came Pam, almost mechanically.

"Really, Pam? You could have asked anything and y-"

"What is your name?" Barked David.

"Listen guys, I-"

"Your name." Said Jake, violently.

"Alright, fine! Fuck... Daniel, it´s Daniel, ok?"

They all sat in silence for a couple of seconds, eyes locked on Daniel as he started to wipe the expression of annoyance out of his face.

"You can´t lie to us." Said Pam without breaking eye contact.

"What the hell are you talking about?"

"What is your name?" Barked David one more time.

"Guys, come on... This isn´t funny anymore".

"You chose Truth, so now you have to answer our question." Came Jake.

Daniel cursed under his voice and clumsily reached for his pockets, he then noticed he had left his wallet at home. Still, he took out a small leather journal and threw it to the middle of the circle.

"See? There it is, right on the top. My father gave me that journal and had my name engraved on the cover. Are we done yet?"

His friends leaned into the circle and carefully read the engraved letters. They then went back to Daniel while keeping their emotionless demeanor.

"Yes, the journal is right. So, what is your name?" Said Pam without flitching.

"For the love of god... are you guys high? Can´t you see? D-A-N--"

Daniel froze as he himself took a good look at the journal. The familiar binding he had seen a thousand times was still there, but the engraving showed something different. It used to read "Daniel", yet somehow a couple of characters had been added to his name. He never thought he would ever feel so eerily disturbed by two letters stitched on a piece of leather, but still, the fact that his beloved journal now read "Danielle" certainly sent a shiver down his spine.
"You guys are dicks." Said Daniel as he stood up and bolted towards the door.

"Don´t knock anything with your tail on your way out." Came Pam.

"My wha-? Just fuck off, Pam..."

Daniel was truly mad. At first, he thought his friends were just pulling an elaborate prank on him. However, after reading the engraving on that journal, something certainly felt amiss.

On his way back home, Daniel felt way hotter than usual. That was particularly strange considering it was really cold outside. Not only that, but he felt itchy all over. He thought about taking off his coat or his winter-globes, but then he figured he might just be coming down with a fever and decided to hurry and get in bed.

"Hi sweetie, I thought you were staying out late." Said Daniel´s father as soon as he opened the door.

"Erm... I felt a bit under the weather, I think I´m gonna take a nap".

"Alright, let me know if you need anything."

"Yeah, sure..."

Daniel was a bit confused, his dad had always been nice to him, but that was probably the first time he called him "sweetie". Daniel did not think much of it and went upstairs to his room. Once in, he mindlessly took off his coat and globes and dove head first into his bed. He was actually feeling sort of sick, so he just dozed off for a while.
After a couple of hours, he was woken up by a loud knocking on the door.

"Honey, dinner´s ready. Your mom made lasagna!"

Daniel sat on his bed and rubbed his eyes. He was still pretty much asleep, so he just robotically walked towards the bathroom to take a leak. Once inside, he pulled down his pants and tried to go about his business as usual. That´s when it hit him.

Tigress emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar

Daniel was horrified. For a second, he couldn´t speak or move. He touched himself, struggling to reach for something that evidently wasn´t there. He stared at his groin for a good two minutes, desperately trying to make sense of it all. Not only was he unable to find the genitals he was born with, but everything seemed to be covered by a dense layer of orange fur.

He closed his eyes and moved towards the sink while mumbling under his voice:

"This is a dream, this is a dream, this is a dream, this is a dream."

Once there, he soaked his hands in water and practically slapped himself in the face. Facing the mirror, he slowly started to open his eyes. And there it was, something so inconceivably unreal that Daniel couldn´t help but to take a few steps back and lay on the wall behind him. He could still see himself clearly, a couple of wet whiskers in a protuberant muzzle, a pair of deep green eyes, and two small black ears, very much like those of a cat, coming out of his fur covered skull. Deep inside, he was hoping to snap back to reality in any second, but when he realized he could move those small cat ears at will, everything became just way too real.

He wanted to scream, but at that point it seemed quite useless. He stood back up again and, out of curiosity more than anything, disrobed completely. The shower screens were made up of reflective glass, so he got a chance to take a good look at his new body. Everything was completely covered in orange fur, with black stripes all over his back, legs, arms and face. A long and fluffy tail that he hadn´t noticed before extended out of his tailbone. He was as tall as before, and besides his feline head and tail, the rest of his body pretty much resembled that of a human. Not any human though... The hourglass shape of his anatomy and the two humble breasts that protruded from his chest were unfaltering female, that and, of course, the fact that he was missing the essential parts that once made him a boy.
Daniel was mesmerized by his own image, slowly exploring his new shapes with a sense of absolute wonder. But then another knock on the door came in and broke his dreamlike state.

"Danielle, honey, is everything ok?" Said Daniel´s mother from the hallway. The bathroom door still closed.
"Oh, shit..." Said Daniel under his breath.

"Honey, what are you doing?"

"N-Nothing mom! I´ll be out in a minute!"

"Alright honey. Don´t forget to dry your tail if you took a bath!"

"My ta- Sure mom..."

A truckload of questions swarmed Daniel´s head. How did she know about the tail? Why wasn´t she freaking out? Did she just called him "Danielle"? All that uncertainty coupled with the sheer madness of the situation would have sent anyone else to the psych-ward. But Daniel managed to keep it together. Hastily, he put his pants and shirt back on and opened the bathroom door. After taking a couple of deep breaths to calm himself down, he made his way downstairs, unsure of what would happen.

"Your mom made chicken lasagna. I know you like the beef one better, but she says the store had ran out of beef." Came his father nonchalantly as Daniel shyly took a sit on the table.

"I don´t need you to make up excuses for me Robert! Besides, she likes chicken too. Isn´t that right honey?"

Daniel took a couple of seconds before realizing his mother was talking to him.

"Heh... yeah, sure. Chicken is fine".

"See? Now eat up before it goes cold! Oh, and honey, I love your fur today. It looks wonderful. Did you use that new shampoo I got you?" Said Daniel´s mother as she served the food.

"T- Thanks mom. I don´t know, maybe..."

Daniel was still trying to get in terms with the fact that his parents were not even slightly concerned by his transformation. As a matter of fact, it would appear as if he had always been like that.

"Well, you better use it. It´s supposed to make your fur shinier!"

"Yes mom..." Came Daniel under his breath.

"By the way, I got the bug spray you asked me for a couple of days ago. They only had the big bottle, but you can share it with your friends".

Daniel nodded without taking his eyes off his plate. In a way, he still feared that if he looked up, everyone would see the animal he had turn into and act accordingly. Still, everything was just... normal.

Daniel finished his meal and went back upstairs. An aura of sheer fantasy still surrounded the whole situation. He sat on his desk in silence, doing absolutely nothing for more time that he would have cared to admit.

Pammy emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar

A knock on the bedroom door interrupted Danielle’s quiet contemplation and Pammy barged inside of her room.

She smiled. "Are you ready for the party?"

Danielle snorted. By accident. "Party?"

Daniel had never been the kind of person to enjoy parties, always preferring to stay at home and play games with his friends, but it seemed that Danielle was experiencing a hot thrill upon speculating what a night out partying with Pammy and their friends might entail.

Pammy nonchalantly stripped herself out of her regular clothes getting on her bra and panties without a moment of hesitation. Part of the tigress that still remembered being Daniel wondered if she should feel aroused, but there was a strange sensation of normalcy about it all.
"You don’t mind lending me some of your clothes, right? My mom thinks we will spend the night studying at your house."

Danielle tried to remember if that had ever happened before, was she this kind of… Girl? Tigress?
"I'm not allowed to go out on school nights."

Danielle almost whispered, this had been true before and she was certain that no matter how much things had changed her mother would still impose certain rules.

"Too bad. There's a party on the coast," Pammy said with a cocky smile.

Danielle could not figure why this seemed so tempting for her, the hot thrill still lingered in her blood, her tail swished from side to side anxiously.

Danielle affected a yawn. "Well, like I said, it's a school night." In hopes of convincing herself more than Pammy.

But right then, Danielle knew it was a lie. Even though it would probably come back to haunt her, Danielle was excited and thrilled about the notion of this party.

Pammy softly shook her head. "Sure… Now you want to help me choose an outfit? Not everyone was blessed with those gorgeous stripes." She smiled, and it was an entrancing smile.

Pammy was like a tornado going through Danielle’s clothes, pulling them out of hangers and drawers. The pieces were a colorful combination of garments going from simple pieces obviously intended for daily use to more elegant dresses that seemed reserved for formal functions and then to a selection of darker pieces that seemed reserved to go out at night.

She quickly donned a black dress with lacy details and checked herself on the mirror, before picking a discreet silvery necklace and a pair of stud earrings.

“Perfect,” she said as she looked herself on the mirror.

Pammy stood there with a huge smile on her face that immediately turned to a frown as she saw Danielle.
More specifically as she took in what the tigress wore.

Random Clothes emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar

"No. No way," she said. "You must be joking if you think you are going to wear that!"

Danielle blushed slightly, she had chosen almost at random from her clothes, trying to guess what would look good on her, but in all honesty the boy turned into a tigress had never paid much attention to women’s clothes before.

Pammy quickly examined all her clothes, meticulously going over Danielle’s wardrobe trying to find the perfect combination of clothing that would be acceptable for going out.

She immediately reached a drawer on the top and Danielle’s eyes went wide as she saw what was in there.
Pammy pulled out a perfectly folded tank top. Shook it out and her eyes went wide. It was so sheer as to almost be see-through.

Next came a red, lacy bra. Pammy held the bra dangling from her fingers with a huge grin plastered on her face.
“That’s gorgeous, when did you bought it?”

Danielle closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She needed to go with the flow. To give in. This evening would go a hell of a lot easier if she did.

“You should try your new boots,” Pammy suggested even as she dug out a pair of tall black boots that seemed to have been made specially for Danielle’s digitigrade feet.

Memories emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar

The tigress would have protested, but as Pammy shoved them in her hands the memory of choosing and buying the boots came to Danielle.

She had worked hard for them, saved money for months to be able to buy it. She felt the leather in her hands, the scraps on it that told a dozen stories that just now she could remember.

Without even putting them, she knew the boots would fit perfectly.

“Yes…” Danielle staggered, lost in memories that she just now remembered.

The memories came easily, naturally as she seemed to follow the instincts of her new body.

Clothes chosen, Pammy helped her with the makeup, the first hesitant movements soon became steady and skilled, working with the practiced ease of someone that had been doing it for years.

Danielle paused as she looked at herself in the mirror. She felt lightheaded, the world had the quality of a dream. She looked sexy on her outfit, but more than that it just felt so natural, just another night out.

Already the heat of the day was starting to dissipate as the two of them walked out of the house silently. The summer was ending and the days were getting shorter. It would only be another couple of weeks before they started having more cold weather.

The tigress was lost in thought as they made their way down the street. It was a bit of a walk, but she was soon discovering her new body seemed to be in much better shape than her human body ever had been.
Danielle shivered in anticipation, despite the mostly warm air. She should have been terrified of going out like this, but all she felt was the thrill.

They reached the end of the street and looked off into the distance. After a few moments they saw a beat up old car coming down the road.

Pammy smiled. The car pulled up and David rolled down the window.

"Are you lost stranger?" Pammy asked.

"That depends,” David replied with a giggle. “I was looking for a pretty kitty and her tamer, you haven’t seen anything like that?"

Pammy grinned and opened the door. "Well then. It seems you've come to just the right place.”

Danielle shivered and got into the car.

In the club emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar

The heavy bass came from the club in front of Danielle and mingled with the laughter and conversation from the groups of people around the old building. The tigress took a deep breath out of the cold night air, this was technically the first time she would been clubbing, her body seemed to be reacting to the music and atmosphere of the place, wanting to dance. Hell, Daniel had hated any situation that could expose himself in public, but it seemed that Danielle was eager to be seen, to dance and party till the sun rose in the horizon.

Everyone standing in line looked to recognize her, smiling and waving as she passed. Wherever they walked her stripes seemed to attract attention and even some more interested looks that made the tigress want to blush under her fur. Pammy and David guided her down the street, far from the most populated clubs and down the street to check some other places.

The night was teeming with life, the music coming from different clubs mixed with the excited sound of voices and cheers from the groups walking up and down the street. The far-away ocean was a constant background noises with his crashing waves, a few fires on the beach showed where people were partying on the sand.

The three of them walked into a club by the name of “Pink Neon”, being received by the pounding tunes of a DJ high on his own sound, bringing a mix of electronic rhythms and beats in fast pace. The house was illuminated by flashing lights and pieces of colored neon that decorated the walls, the dance floor was mostly dark with lots of dark corners that made the place hot with dirty dancing.

Pushing through the crowd, swaying just right with the beat, Pammy dragged Danielle to the bar.
“Tonight is ladies night!” She said as the two of them walked towards the bar.

The lights in the room were mainly discreet wall mounts over the bar and colored lights pulsing around the DJ. The back of the room was wreathed in shadows, but Danielle could make out a sitting area with big leather sofas and chairs.

A cute, chubby blonde came over and asked what they wanted.

"Two marguerites!" Pammy replied cheery.

The bartender looked him over and asked for an ID. Danielle hesitated for a moment, half of her hoping that her ID would somehow show her true identity, but as soon as she showed it she knew that it wouldn’t be his old identity. The blonde inspected both identities before pouring the drinks, never even batting an eye at Danielle’s identity.

"Alright, and if you, girls, need a refill then come straight back to me before midnight, okay?" She gave Danielle a playful wink.

The tigress nodded, flicking her tail in confusion. Pammy guided to where David had saved them a table, but not before at least two different guys pulled her tail and one groped her ass.
With their drinks in hand, they enjoyed the music for a while, sipping from their plastic cups and watching the dance floor. The tigress quickly noticed that her eyes adjusted easily to the darkness, being able to see much better than her friends.

With Pammy and David eying the dancers, Danielle was struck by a sudden realization that she felt utterly at a loss about what were her preferences. She could remember having been a straight boy before it all, but now? She bit her lips, looking from one muscular, long haired man to a short haired brunette unsure of what she should do.

Get some air emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar

Her eyes kept wandering, her tail flicking in confusion as she saw David going to get some drinks for himself. Pammy walked into the dance floor eyeing the long haired muscled guy. She turned her head, now glancing away from the dance floor and into her drink. Taking one final sip from her plastic glass, Danielle decided she needed to take some air first.

With just a few more tail pulls and ass grabs she made her way to the exit, breathing in the cold night air and feeling the silence that seemed so strange after the loud music inside.

She took a few steps and closed her eyes. The longer Danielle walked, the more she realized the conflict inside of her, she craved the excitement of a night out, but there was a part of her that seemed to scream that she shouldn’t been out having fun, but looking for a solution for her situation. Stopping in front of yet another warehouse, the neon lights and music humming within seemed to call for her, to make any worry fade away. This was exactly what she needed.

Danielle spun around, coming face to face with a strange man with the ears of a rabbit. She took a moment to perceive he wasn’t entirely human, but just like her he seemed to be an anthropomorphic rabbit. His hair was dyed pink and he had red eyes like a rabbit. The guy was incredibly skinny, dressed in leather pants and a tight white tank top. He checked his watch, then cringed. “Sorry! I’m so late!”

“That’s okay.” Danielle barely got the words out when the young rabbit pushed past her and bolted for an alley a block down. “Hey, where are you going? Is there a good club down there?”

“No time to chat!” And he ran around the corner.

Staring at the spot where he’d been seconds before, Danielle gave her head a shake. “You’re kidding me?”

Well, now she had to know what the hell was down there. If nothing else, maybe the man could help her understand what had happened and how she could go back to normal!

Follow Him emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar

You keep telling yourself that, Danielle.

Leaving Pammy and David behind, she strode a bit faster toward where the man had gone. The noise from the surrounding clubs faded into the background as soon as she turned the corner. With each step farther into the dimly lit alley, Danielle’s heart rate increased.

There was no immediate indication where either the rabbit had gone. The only thing visible was a neon sign at the far end of the alley. Beyond was a section of commercial buildings, creating a dead end. Stopping before she got too close, Danielle heard a cacophony of noise—voices and sounds that didn’t quite register with her. Turning her head to try and catch the bead of the conversation, she was relieved to hear the voice of the rabbit who’d run into her.

“Come on, man. I’m late as hell.”

“You should have thought of that earlier.”

“Don’t be a dick, Volk.”

“Go then, but you own me this one.”

She couldn’t see either man. Danielle started moving forward once more, realizing that there was a hidden door, protecting them from any casual passer-by.

After taking half a heartbeat to check her hair and smooth her hands down the length of her clothes in an almost instinctive manner, she bit her lips and went to check out this seemingly secret club. The red neon sign above the door wasn’t as flashy as some of the other clubs in the district. There wasn’t the same blare of dance music coming to her from inside, which held the promise of a slightly more upscale experience.

“Chrysalid.” She licked her lips as she stared at the harsh green letters.

Bouncer emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar

Danielle gasped at the sight of the large black wolf standing at the door entrance. He was easily over six and a half feet tall and looked like he’d be at home hunting deer on the tundra with nothing but his sharp claws and fangs. She couldn’t believe she hadn’t seen him immediately.

“Umm, hi.” She waved and gave him a little smile. “How are you?”

“I’m just fine. It’s a cool night with a warm breeze.”

Unsure what she should do next, Danielle took a few steps closer. The bouncer made no move to stop her one way or the other, but she got the impression no one set foot inside the club without his approval. Lying or flirting with him wasn’t going to work either. One look at his amused expression told her that much. She was somehow going to have to convince him to let her go in and see if she could try and find the white rabbit.

Danielle tried to look over him, biting her lip. “What kind of club is this?”

Volk chuckled. “If you have to ask, you shouldn’t be here.”

“I was out on the street when a white rabbit ran into me and then came down this way. I got curious and followed him. I didn’t think there were any clubs this far down the street.”

“Oh, there are one or two, little kitty.”

“I had never seen anything like it, but I got—”

“Curious.” His grin appeared to fill his face. “You know what they say about curiosity and cats. You should run away before something bad happens.”

Disappointment clawed at her, twisting her stomach into something painful. Danielle stepped back, knowing that he was probably right—she shouldn’t be here. She managed another step away before Volk cleared his throat. “Though you did ask me a question. It would be awfully rude of me not to answer you before you went on your way.”

She smiled. “You strike me as the type of man who hates rudeness.”

“I do indeed. There are few enough good manners out in the world today.” He beckoned her closer.

Stepping into the cubby, she did her best to ignore her pounding heart and the fact that this was a terrible idea. Volk reached out and put his hand on the handle.

“The thing to remember with this club is the need for you to keep an open mind.”

Danielle nodded, not understanding at all. But she could do that. No problem.

“You’re going to see many different people inside, some that don’t even show themselves in the daylight. It’s a very private place. They’re baring their souls in here. Are you sure you are able to handle something like that?”

“I still don’t know what that is.”

“Chrysalid is a club that caters to particular tastes, people that have been changed or transformed in any way. They have special accommodations and recipes in there that will cater to whatever new shape or form you could have or desire. Just be careful of the games and rules inside.”
Danielle nodded.

He pushed open the door and turned sideways, giving Danielle room to walk by. “Go on.”

The corridor was lit by the occasional pot light in the ceiling. The air was cool, giving her welcome relief from the persistent warm humidity outside.

The hallway turned around itself, blocking any kind of vision or sound to come through, giving her no indication as to where she was going or what she’d find when she eventually got there. When she rounded a curve, she finally saw an opening at the end, leading out to a large room. There was a soft rhythm that reached her, it sounded like old melodies, but as if made by strange instruments that were played by inhuman fingers.

Approaching the end, Danielle stepped out into the main room. The warehouse space was wide open, with a series of bays around the sides that offered a modicum of privacy for the people sitting on the tables.

Most of the clubs and bars in the street had the smell of stale beer, unwashed bodies, and piss, but this warehouse smelled like incense and cinnamon. It looked like something out of the Arabian Nights. The tables were swathed in a rose satin coverlet. Instead of chairs, a pile of plump pillows in shades of pink and red overlapped one another around the tables. The red carpet was thick; when you walked on it, you felt like never quite touching the ground. The curtains were dark red, and the walls were hung with quilted silk squares in red, gold, and purple scattered with small round mirrors.

A couple walked past her, a striking woman wearing a short red dress and a man wearing a stark white shirt and a sharp jacket, but no pants at all since his lower half was that of a horse. They didn’t give her a second glance, even as Danielle openly stared at the pair as they walked past.

A whistle snatched Danielle’s attention. A woman with great wings for arms and the legs of a bird was singing on stage, her clothes seemed to have been carefully crafted for her body. A fully dressed man with the head of a fox played some strange instrument at her side, his fingers running through the strings producing an eerie melody.
Groups of men and women stood around talking, smiling, making it look like just another cocktail party. If it weren’t for the multitude of mystical animals walking amongst them.

She stepped farther into the room, knowing she was most likely going to get herself kicked out for clearly not belonging. Until that happened, Danielle figured she might as well look around.

The farther Danielle went into the club, the more attention she attracted. At first, it wasn’t obvious. She’d turn around to look at something, and she’d catch sight of people turning their face away. The closer she got to them, the less they’d mask their stares. Not that she could meet their gazes. There was something surprisingly intense about the eyes of many of the women and men.

This was wrong, she shouldn’t have come. And yet, she wasn’t running out of there.

“Well, well, well. I see Volk has found a lost kitty.”

Danielle turned around and managed to swallow down a gasp. Standing there was one of the most beautiful women she’d ever seen. Wearing an elegant black dress was a voluptuous woman who appeared to be in her forties and carried herself like a queen of old times. She was accompanied by a muscular sphinx, his body chiseled, and his blue gaze lost on his tablet.
The woman cocked an eyebrow, her lips turning up into a smirk. “I see you are new here, new to this all. What’s your name, my dear?”

Returning her gaze to the woman, Danielle swallowed. “Danielle,” she said automatically.
“Danielle. How sweet.” The woman took a step forward, analyzing the tigress with clinical eyes. She wanted to step away, but the woman grabbed her by the chin, chasing all thoughts of escape far away. “What a pretty little thing you are.”

Danielle could only need, strangely entranced by this woman.

“They call me Ahalya, I’m the owner of the Chrysalid.”

Danielle’s gasp had Ahalya laughing.

“Oh you are precious. So innocent.” Her fingernail scratched Danielle’s fur as she ran it down her cheek. “Now how on earth did you find yourself here?”

“I was following someone.” She couldn’t remember to breathe. “A white rabbit, I had never seen someone like him and I got curious.”

“We are always grateful to have some new clients for our little club. I hope you are enjoying what you have seem so far, we try to be a receptive folk.”
