Calm
“Everything alright? You looked like you were about to diamond blast me right now.”
Diamond blast? Is that what I can do? “Erm, sorry. I didn’t know who was… coming in.”
“Were you expecting someone?” Maria asked. She looked around the apartment. “Is someone here? Ren, you’re making me anxious. Come on.”
Ren? Is that my name here? “Sorry, sorry. I’m just on edge, I guess.”
Maria scoffed. She walked over to a nearby counter and slid the grocery bags off her arm. It revealed a strange device wrapped around her wrist and sparked a memory in Ren’s mind. “Well, please relax. Nobody’s challenging us right now. Maybe I can challenge you to come help me get the rest of the groceries out of my car?”
Ren’s heart started to slow into a steadier beat. First thing I’m doing in this realm is moving groceries? That’s a mighty big step down compared to most. They weren’t complaining. They put on a faint smile. “Sure. No problem.”
Maria smiled back. “Aw, there’s a smile. That excited to help with groceries?”
Do I not smile here? “Maybe. Perhaps. I don’t know.”
Maria chuckled. “Well, come on. They aren’t going to grab themselves.”
“Yeah, alright.” Ren followed her through the door to the outdoor steps. Their imagination ran wild up until they were outside. Is it going to be the future? Am I going to see flying cars? Flying Digimon? Not quite. What they saw was exactly how things looked the last time they were here. Parked on the curb was Maria’s sedan. It was the exact make, model, and color that they remembered. They looked up tentatively and saw nothing else in the sky but some wayward clouds. So… I am the only one. Or, I just haven’t seen any yet. God, I really should’ve watched the shows as a kid.
“You comin’?”
