Inside the shrine, the darkness slowly gives way to dim light via candles, torches, and paper lanterns. In the main chamber, on the far end, is a massive nine-tailed fox statue with a plate of offered food and a wooden fox mask, along with a small hand mirror; the walls are covered in strange wooden masks of many different creatures. Some of the masks are of ordinary animals native to japan, such as racoon-dogs; others are more mythical, like one that displays both human and bird-like features with a long nose. A sign reads:

 

The food on the offering plate is tasty-looking, isn't it? But there's a cost. The masks are free to try on,
though!
