Reality Hopping star star star emptystar emptystar

In this story you can hop between realities following these rules:

No more then

These measurements are based on your home reality.

Your home reality is the one where you start your journey from.

When you hop to another reality you switch your mind with anybody who is there already.

If you hop to a different reality then your home reality from another reality then:

Reality 3 contains you.
Reality 2 contains the person from reality 3
Your home reality contains the person from reality 2

If someone dies then the person whose reality he/she home reality changes to that of the person who died. (Using the example above , if the person in your home reality dies your home reality becomes reality 2. If the person in reality 2 dies then the home reality of the person from reality 2 becomes
3.)

Jenene emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar

Jenene walked home from school, her brow knit in annoyance as she gazed at her grade card.

"Hey, Jenene. Wait up!" Sasha ran up to her.

"What's wrong?" she asked. "You kind of walked out of the classroom in a hurry."

The tanned girl stopped at her steps once allowing Sasha to catch up. “My parents ain't gonna be happy once they see this.” She said as she gave the report card to Sasha.

“Ouch… What have you been doing these past few weeks? Everything looks okay except math and science.”

“Look, I just don’t want to get yelled by my parents. They want perfect grades in every single class. Otherwise, no more cheerleading and tennis. The first time was a threat, but this time, they’ll force me to leave.”

“Well if you’re heading straight home, I don’t want to intrude then. See you.”

“Thanks. I’ll talk to you tomorrow about it. Later.”

***

Jenene paused in front of her house. She knew her parents were going to ask the "report card question" once she walked through the door. She let out a heavy breath and entered anyway.

Inside, Jenene made it to the living room before her mother called out from the kitchen.

“Jenene, come in here.”

Jenene winced, running a nervous, tanned hand through her dark hair as she held her report card tightly. This lecture from her parents would not be pleasant.

Tutor emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar

“Jenene… this is not good. Is there something going on math and science your father and I should know about?”

“You really wanna know? You try sitting in one of my classes some day and maybe there you can get a glimpse of why I’m failing! It's the teachers!”

Her parents looked at each other. Surely there could be no doubt that the reason for Jenene's failings wasn't actually her fault.

“Okay, whatever is going on with you and the teachers Jenene, I suggest you fix it! If that doesn't work, we'll be considering getting you a private tutor.” Rita said.

“Are you serious?!” Jenene cried as her mouth began twisting.

Curtis added. “Jenene, if the teachers are giving you trouble, perhaps you need some kind of different help? Such as in a quiet space, or more hands-on type teaching? You see what I mean?”

Jenene lightened up at the suggestion and gave it some thought. In fact, the statement made a lot of sense.

“Alright, Dad. You and Mom win this round. I suppose a tutor sounds great. It might be for the best since I won't have Mr. Lee or Mrs. Dwayne breathing on my neck.”

“We’ll get the best one in the city, honey. Knowing those types, they have proof that they won't disappoint.”

“Mind if I make a recommendation? Since you both know that math and science aren't as perfect as the others, can I get.”

"We'll talk about the tutor later.”

In the morning emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar

Jenene got ready for school the next morning, taking a deep breath as she was about to endure another stressful day with her high-maintenance algebra and chemistry teachers. The sooner they find that tutor, the better. Her parents already left for work once she locked the house door before walking the single mile to her school. While she was entering the school, Sasha was already there and was more than eager to know what happened yesterday.

“Jenene, hey!”

“Morning, Sasha. If you’re wanting to know what went down yesterday, my parents are hiring a tutor for me.”

“Oh. It sounds like it wasn’t as bad as I thought.”

“Nope, I told them about the problem with the teachers.”

“Oh,” Sasha said as if she seen this scenario before. “Now I get it. Mr. Lee and Mrs. Dwayne are hounding you for no apparent reason.”

“I haven’t told them everything, but Lee and Dwayne made it abundantly clear they don’t like me. All because I’m not doing what they want me to do like the rest of class.”

“I seriously dread the parent-teacher conference for you.”

“Not until that tutor comes, then we won't have to worry.”

Right after class, Jenene and her parents spent the whole Friday evening looking for tutors in their area. Eventually, they found the number and website of one man who was categorized as the number one tutor from a public database that was listed them. Reading the qualifications Jenene was pleased that the chosen tutor was adept in math and science!

To further lighten Jenene's mood, Mr. Clancy Horne was more than nice sounding on the phone. He was clear, fluent and seemed very excited to work with Jenene.

Mr. Clancy Horne emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar

That Monday morning Jenene walked to her locker to get her supplies for math class when she met up with Sasha.

“Hey, Jenene. Have you found your tutor yet?”

“Glad you asked! We found one and he’s known to be the best tutor in the area.”

“That’s great to hear! What's his name?”

“A Mr. Clancy Horne. I have to go to his house right after school. It's not too far from here.”

***

Once the bell rang for dismissal later that day, Jenene wasted no time leaving the school and walking to the home of her new tutor. The girl had to travel within the neighborhood, but that led Jenene into some of the obscured parts of the area she never stepped foot in. Upon entering the vicinity, Jenene was almost shocked seeing rundown and decimated homes. The place just exuded a... unwelcomed presence.

Jenene felt the need for a quick checkup of her location, so she glanced at her phone for the address: 10076 West Trelawney St. Looking at the street sign, Jenene almost cringed that she was going in the right direction. Because she was almost willing to turn back.

Just keep going….

The tanned girl held on to her backpack and hastened her pace.

Birds emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar

The girl walked for another seven minutes while paying special to the addresses until she found the one that was indeed Mr. Horne's house. The place was a beautiful Victorian-style home with a modern undertone with it, but for such an upper-middle-class house, it looked less than average in the home maintenance department.

Jenene lightened her expression as the man was reading the newspaper on his patio while pet parakeets were singing to him.

“Excuse me. Are you Mr. Horne?”

The man with glasses looked up at here. “You must be Jenene Pierce! Welcome! Are you ready to get started?”

“Yes, please.”

Jenene figured the man seemed nice. And admittedly he was attractive. Tall, somewhat toned, square jawline, and slick black hair. All that unease soon dissolved in the back of Jennie's mind and entered the home.

***

The interior of Mr. Horne’s house was a strange compliment to the exterior. Wild was the best word to describe it. It had a strange outdoor smell Jenene couldn't recognize what it was. The place was somewhat dark with its dark yellow and brown walls, and it looked liked an animal or avian taxidermy museum. Portraits depicting different kinds of birds decorated the walls, accompanying by colorful feathers stitched into picture frames.

A shrill bird cry of a parakeet came from another room.

“Wow, you are a bird owner!”

“Excuse them, the birds are quite chatty. I'll go and quiet them. After that, we'll start.”

Jenene nodded and went to her seat and unloaded her supplies.

Success? emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar

That first night really changed Jenene’s perception about private tutoring. Mr. Horne was much more patient and straightforward than Dwayne and Lee combined. Jenene didn't have the distracting rude comments about how 'wrong' she was answering the questions. She wasted no time completing her homework at a much faster rate than she had ever achieved before.

“I don't know why those teachers are so oblivious… your work is phenomenal. You're one of the very rare students who isn't well… for a lack of a better term, an airhead.”

“I'm just like doing my work right.”

“To be honest, it’s quite nice to have an adept client under me who’s more than capable in all subjects if I remember correctly from the phone interview with your parents. You're free to go. When you come back, you want a tour?”

“That’ll be great, thanks!”

***

Jenene left at seven in the evening. Her face turned anxious with the immediate realization that she had to walk in the dark with no functioning street lights. She walked on the sidewalk as a chill ran through the air, picking up the dead leaves fallen from nearby oak trees that gave a creepy atmosphere all around. The fall moon was completely full, which provided the only source of light that would help Jenene find her way home.

Don’t panic Jenene. I’m gonna have to ask him if I can leave early when it’s still light outside. This part of the neighborhood really gives me the creeps… Wonder why he stays here.

She calmed down and began walking briskly. Shortly after, she heard a loud cacophony of cawing of crows. It startled Jenene so much she lost her balance and tripped. She only caught a glimpse of the sound’s source before seeing a large flock of crows flying over the bare trees…. Jenene moved her eyes to where it was coming from, which was happening over the general vicinity of Mr. Horne’s house…. Suddenly a loud, piercing noise that vaguely sounded like a gigantic bird rippled through the silent neighborhood.

Jenene got up, held onto her belongings and fled the scene.

History emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar

Jenene woke up that next morning, her mind was still running with questions of what happened last night. She was hoping her parents might have already forgotten about it, but her father asked anyway.

“Honey, do you want to talk about last night? When you came in the door, you looked like you ran a freaking track race.” Curtis said.

Jenene pinched the bridge of her forehead and said, “Mom, Dad, I saw something very weird.”

“Where?”

“At the tutor's home... I really don’t know how to explain it, but there is something weird in that house. A huge flock of crows was scattering all over his house, but he has a lot of pet birds too.”

“Really? I understand that he keeps birds... but also dealing with a crow infestation--er, hold up. Crows aren't active in the night! How's it possible? How does the man sleep or work with all that racket? No offense to the birds, though.” Curtis said.

That comment about crows being diurnal made Jenene remember her bird lesson in biology, and it helped raised a red flag. He was right indeed. The incident was becoming more uncanny than she thought.

***

Jenene met up with Sasha the next morning at the school door.

“Jenene! Hey. How was the tutor? How was he? Was he good?”

Picking her words carefully, she answered, “He's great. He totally lives up to his reputation.”

“Does he go to your house or you have to visit his?”

“I go to his.... Um, between you and me--I didn't tell Mom and Dad--he lives in the rundown part of the neighborhood.”
Sasha exclaimed, “Whoa… really?! My grandma lives around there. She told me a lot of weird stuff happening there when she was little. There was this very weird house on 10076 West Trelawney St. that she and her parents avoided.”

"WAIT, WHAT? The tutor lives in that very same house! Does your grandma know about a flock of crows that flies around his house at night? Because that's what I saw the other night when I left Mr. Horne's."

Sasha said slowly, "That sounds a tad bit familiar from what Grandma Mary said, yes. I'm not sure, though. Grandma's been telling me all this for years, but not once did I ever thought of finding out if this was all true or not...."

"Hey, if a weird house attracts weird things, I have no objections."

The bell rang.

Sasha said, "I'll look into it as soon when I get free time."

School Day emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar

Jenene continued on with her school day and actually managed to impress her disliked teachers by getting her work done 'perfectly', or so to speak. Hopefully, the mutual animosity would disappear from this point. In the meantime, she did cheerleading practice and prepared for an upcoming tennis tournament in gym class.

***

But during all this time, Jenene still couldn't get that strange incident at Mr. Horne’s house out of her head. Seeing those flock of birds show up so suddenly felt too random to be a coincidence.

Once the bell rang for final dismissal, Jenene went to her locker to put her stuff away and bring some things with her until she got a text from Sasha.

Jenene…. I got some shocking news about the address, meet me in the library. ASAP!

The girl felt her heart skip a beat. She read the text again. That feeling of a hundred questions ran through her heads again. She couldn't wait to get some questions she never had before answered.

On my way.

***

The school library wouldn't close for the next hour, but since Sarah was the library assistant, that didn't apply to them. Jenene sprinted inside the place and found Sasha on a computer.

“Sasha, I got your text and ran here as quick as I could. What's going on? What did you found out about the house?”

Sasha put down her glasses. “Jenene. I'm not sure how to tell you this… but I seriously think you need to be careful going back to that house! Grandma's statements pretty much back this up now.”

“Why?! What have you found…?”

She continued. “I typed in the address to research on it… and now I'm kinda regretting it. Google showed me a lot of disturbing things about that house.”

“Is is haunted?”

“Not that I know of. I found a news article about the house, and it's been a breeding ground for weird occult rituals revolving around birds.”

“Wow! That must be something!”

Jenene continued reading the article. She saw pictures of people from the 1930s in dark robes covered in feathers who were standing in front of that very same house.

“The article says that this cult was called the 'Coven of Morrigan',” Sasha added.

“Morrigan? Who is that?”

“From what I gathered, the Morrigan was an ancient goddess from Ireland who overlooked warfare and death. She was highly connected with crows.”

“Oh god.... I don't think this is a coincidence. I SAW a huge flock of crows flying around the house the other night!"

"But how is that possible? Crows aren't nighttime birds."

"I had the same thought. Have you found anything else about the house?”

“Not much. Aside from numerous missing person reports that went on. People automatically assumed the cult had something to do with it, but they proclaimed their innocence through and through. The authorities searched the house, but nothing showed up. No one knew what became of those people. The cult eventually disbanded in the 60s.”

Jenene was at lost of words. She didn't know what to think.

"Wow... I think Mr. Horne has a lot of explaining to do when I see him again."

Sasha said, "Okay, but do you think he has something to do with the house? He could be just some random guy who lives there, and knows nothing about all this."

"You could be right Sasha, but he has a lot of pet birds."

"That’s a weird coincidence.... We should get going then."

"Hold on.... Now I'm getting curious, can we see your grandmother?"

"You wanna see Grandma Mary? Okay, I'm sure she's willing to tell someone about her... unusual childhood other than me or Mom."

The girls knocked on the door of Mrs. Blake's home. They were greeted by a dark-skinned woman with gray hair.

"Hello, Sasha! Who's this? One of your friends?"

"Grandma, this is my friend Jenene Pierce. We can't stay long because she has a tutor to go to."

"Very well, what brings you here?"

"The house. On 10076 West Trelawney St."

Mrs. Blake felt her casual expression broke into a twinge of dread.

Sasha and Jenene saw the change of the old woman's face, thinking this must be a mistake.

"Jenene, that house is a really spooky place and I'm thankful I never set foot in there. A lot of people went missing from this block. That included five of my friends."
"It's true. Three girls and 2 boys vanished and no one ever found their bodies." Sasha added.

Mrs. Blake continued, "I tried looking for them myself, which was not the best idea, but I was desperate. I remember one night while searching that I was attacked by a flock of crows. I ran so fast to my house that I forgot my things. I didn't leave this house for two days straight!"

Jenene answered that she saw a similar event of a crow flock flying above the house, but she wasn't attacked.

"Jenene, you have to be careful going into that house. The cult may be gone, but its past is still felt today. It may be best if this tutor of yours know nothing of the house's history, but I can't assume that he does or he doesn't. Just watch your back."

***

Jenene rushed home to tell her parents the creepy history of the tutor's house. But once she got there, she was upset to find them already gone for work. A note on the table said that she needed to meet Mr. Horne. As much she disliked disobeying her parents, Jenene was really unsure if it was a good idea to even go now. She hoped he had nothing to do with the house's history, and maybe she could ask him about it if he knew anything.

“Let me just go…” Jenene mumbled quietly to herself before heading out again.

Back to the House emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar

Once the girl approached the Victorian home, a small twinge of either dread or uncertainty crept into her mood. She shook her head before she on the door, waiting for it to answer.

The door opened again and the dark-haired man stepped out to invite her in. Jenene was almost shocked to find him in a… somewhat decrepit mood. His eyes almost looked... overexcited His usually straight and well-kept hair was somewhat messy and mouth looked… strangely wet.

Jenene was going to ask him about the house… but she knew that it would be rude as Mr. Horne was probably not in the mood for such questions. The girl had a small gut feeling that her tutor was affected in one way or another by this house.

The man croaked, “How are you Jenene? Probably a lot better than I am?”

Jenene answered, "To be honest, I'm kind of under the weather, but I'll manage."

She almost didn't want to be here as much as how Clancy was feeling.
“Are you sure you can tutor me today?”

“Yes. I've been doing some things upstairs during the last several hours. Don't worry, it's nothing. Let's get started.”
They went to the office, Jenene took out her things and began working on some mathematics and physical science. But eventually, Mr. Horne left her alone.

Missing? emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar

After a few hours, Jenene slowed her work as she noticed it was getting dark outside… thus realizing that she was overstaying her welcome. During most of the time, Mr. Horne got in and out of his seat helping her. This time, she was alone in the office room again. The only source of light was the lamp and light coming from the hallway.

“Uh, Mr. Horne, where are you?” No answer.

She called out to him again. Still no reply.

Seeing that it was useless, Jenene packed up her backpack and walked out of the room, spooked.

She went into the living room again, almost upset it was nearly dark and no lights were one. Then, she heard the cry of a parakeet. Jenene forgot about the pet birds. She switched on a nearby lamp and she noticed some feathers on the floor.

Then she heard a very creepy moan from another room….

Jenene shivered, “Mr. Horne?!”

No answer.

The girl held tightly to her backpack, walking towards. She went into another hallway where the source originally came from. As the girl was getting nearer, she began hearing sounds… disturbing sounds. Like ravenous chewing.

Is it coming from the kitchen?

The girl walked a little faster once the sound stopped. She was too scared to call out his name.

Then, came another creepy moan, but this time it sounded not like a man's voice... it sounded like some kind of animal or creature.

“Sooooo… ACH, ACH… hun grrr yy.”

Jenene stopped walking as she heard the horrid phrase…. That was not Clancy, it sounded so… unnatural.

The girl shivered, feeling a drop of sweat slowly dripping on her face. The sounds were coming from the kitchen and she was just about four feet away from it. There hardly seemed to be any lights on, and the girl didn't want to know what was happening in there.

Jenene, something weird is happening in that kitchen… at least it's dark… don't have to comprehend what it actually is.

The girl carefully approached the doorway of the kitchen. All she was in there was blackness… except for a huge shadow that loomed over the window. It was the tutor…

His body was horrifically tall and lank…. Jenene squinted her eyes for better vision and was shocked to find him eating something with his teeth and fingers, snarling as he chewed on something!

The girl slowly stepped back into the hallway and ran for the front door. Before she could turn the doorknob, Mr. Horne called her name.

“Jenene? Hold on!”

The girl screamed as she flipped the door opened and ran out, not bothering to look back.

A truth emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar

Fortunately, Jenene had all weekend to tell her parents everything about Mr. Horne. That moment of her running from the house was still vivid from her mind. It was terrifying. Extremely terrifying. Seeing what Mr. Horne was doing, or what he really was preoccupying her mind. She almost couldn't sleep, save for a couple hours.

Once Jenene woke up on that Saturday morning, she was drowsy from the lack of sleep. Her parents wasted no time what was happening..

“Good morning Jenene-- oh goodness! Honey, did you sleep last night?” Rita exclaimed.

“Jenene… it looks like you had a nightmare. Is everything going okay?” Curtis asked.

The girl weakly sat in a chair while being given a small mug of tea to ease up before she could answer any questions, “Not exactly."

“What then? Something’s been on your mind lately?

Jenene winced at herself at the answer that was also wrong. “Yes. It’s about Mr. Horne”

Rita looked at her daughter and said, “Come on Jenene… What’s going on? Did you went to Mr. Horne like we said in the note?”

“Yes and I. Can't. Go. Back!”

“What?! What happened?!”

“Get ready for a long talk... Sasha Googled his address and we found out some things. There was some kind of occult who did rituals in that house. Don’t believe me? Look it all up and you’ll know what I’m talking about!”

Jenene grabbed her laptop from the closet and turned it on to quickly type in the home address. Rita looked at the computer and carefully read the articles, learning about the Morrigan cult and missing person reports. Jenene also mentioned Mrs. Blake’s visit. Curt read the articles as well, but he wasn't apparently too thrilled about this new information. However, it was not the kind of disapproval Jenene expected.

“Jenene. This… This… I don’t believe all this.”

“What?”

“I’m not referring to the historical evidence of the house… I’m skeptical of Mr. Horne having any involvement with that house--in the present time, I mean.”

“He had a lot of pet birds.”

“Okay?! That doesn’t mean he has connections to the cult then. Those people are long gone anyway.”

Rita sipped some of her coffee before speaking, “I don’t mean to sound superstitious Curt, but something’s telling me it’s too much a of coincidence.”

“Okay… But why do we need to assume?” Curt asked

“We don't want to, but I think we should talk to clear things up. Maybe that would give Jenene some peace of mind.”

“Whatever it takes to shake off the suspicion, I won’t stop you both.”

Curt murmured, “Really Jenene, I honestly don’t understand why you raise such a big fuss. Mr. Horne seems normal..”

Jenene looked at the table blankly, asking herself now if what she saw last night was just a figment of her imagination, but her eyes did not lie to her. Mr. Horne was... not himself in that kitchen. The question she should be asking what was going on with Clancy Horne. Who was he? And most importantly, does he really have anything to do with the house?

“I agree with your mother on speaking to him at his house. At least we can get a progress report on the tutoring at least.” Curtis said as he stood up.

“I think that’s a wonderful idea. Don’t you think Jenene?” Rita asked.

“Er, right.”

A meeting emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar

A phone call was made in the next hour.

Jenene paid special close attention to Mr. Horne’s voice on the other line. And to her shock, he sounded perfectly okay and healthy on the phone! Nonetheless, Mr. Horne gladly accepted a visit to his house.

***

The family drove to the house, but the reception of where they had to go was shocking.

“My goodness, I had no idea we had a rundown part of the neighborhood.” Rita murmured as she stared at the rundown homes

“Well, now you know.”

“Honey, I’m starting to have second thoughts about this.” Curtis said quietly.

Jenene felt her discomfort levels rising. “Let’s get this over with.”

The family knocked the door and the dark-haired man answered, completely normal as ever.

***

“Mr. Horne, our daughter had some kind of trouble about your house a couple nights before.”

“Oh, it was nothing. I have a crow infestation in my backyard, they like to go fly around at night.”

“Mr. Horne, is there anything we can learn about the house?”
The man widened his eyes, “You… are the first people whoever asked…. To give the short version of things… this house was home to a harmless, religious cult back in the late 1800s and the early 1900s; a sort of niche group that was based in Celtic legend. I am one of the worshippers’ descendants and the cult is no longer active.”

A bird was heard in the background.

Rita and Curt looked at the interior, it was… old-fashioned… almost feral and so nature-oriented with some sort of Gothic undertone.

Jenene was still horribly uncomfortable with the place.

“Well, Clancy…. We mean no disrespect, but we are really not sure this house is a fitting environment for you to tutor Jenene. She's says she’s been terrified of whatever is going on here. You think it's possible that you can work with her at our house?”

Jenene heard the suggestion…. Dang, how come I never thought of it before? “Yes, please!”

“No worries, that could be arranged. This was the first time I actually let a student come to my house. But I’ll be more than happy to come to your house.”
