You follow them into a locked cabniet to find folders packed into shelves inside. "Here is all the written information we have on the device and the ship it comes from. There should be some photographs too. However they are orgainsed chronographically and we don't know what exactly is useful."

You nod and ask "How long a time period do these folders cover?"

"About 20 years" the researcher answers "from the time we first saw the ship in our telescopes to now"

You skim through it and find out that the crash site was a week way from the nearest city up in the mountains. And they had to carry everything on foot.To you it seemed very pulp fiction, like the sort of thing one might find in old weird tales of discovery and adventure, like that one Harrison Ford movie. It was low tech, you were somewhat surprised that they didn't even have pack animals to carry their goods, but then you had yet to see any domesticated creatures, maybe they didn't have any? In either case, it was a very interesting anachronism.

Soon you find the pictures of the craft and more importantly the pictures of the cylinder.

Unfortunately right next to the cylinder is what appears to be a large computer that appears to have exploded. You stare dumbfounded for a moment, unsure if computers were even capable of actually detonating, but then this was supposedly alien technology, it could have been powered by nitro glycerine for all you knew.

You point to that, seemingly beyond any hope of words or explanation, hoping that they were able to get some data off of it somehow.

"That did not go to our department. I can try and find out where it is for you though"

You nod and continue to look in the folders for any other data. Made sense to you anyway, hopefully someone did have something intelligible, you'd think about it later.

Soon though it is time for dinner, signaled by your own growling stomach and that of some other lionesses around you. You seemed quite in tune with them, as though you could pick up on their subtler signals, though only in broad strokes. You are invited out to a nearby restaurant, one who's name you still can't quite pronounce, the entire research team seeming to almost ascend from the work at once. It's the male that finally says "As a welcome I will pay for you."

You smile, though frankly you hoped so, you weren't sure if payment were it's own little anachronistic ritual or if it were as simple as swiping a card. It would be an interesting learning experience either way. "I don't even know any of your names"

"Well perfect time to learn them."

"I suppose it would be nice, rather than just calling you all 'Leo Sapiens' or something."

Now he smiles "Seeing as though this is your first night I will order for you if that is alright?"
