Parent      Story So Far      Outline

It's not the fall that kills you, it's hitting the ground star star star star emptystar

You try spreading your arms and legs the way you've seen skydivers do, and after a couple of gyrations you manage to stabilize your plummeting body. All that means, though, is that you are facing your doom and know which part of you is going to splat first. You are, in short, falling like a skydiver without a parachute.

Terrific.

Making a valiant attempt at calming down, you start thinking about flying. Do you even have wings? You recall catching a glimpse of something during your transformation, and there is a definite weight on your back that feels too much part of you to be a backpack. Or a parachute. Right now you wish it was a parachute so you could just pull the ripcord and float on down...

Alright, two extra limbs. Three if you count the tail, which you hope you won't have to worry about for a while.

Just have to figure out the wiring... Shouldn't be a problem, you do this kind of thing every day, right? Not.

Concentrating on the extra weight, you try to think of it as a pair of extra arms, and try to move the right one. Your grandfather used to tell you that when he was a kid, his father would take him down to the river, throw him in the water and tell him to sink or swim, and that's how he learned the latter of the two. If he learned to swim like that, surely you can learn to fly? Swimming doesn't involve any extra limbs though...

Your train of thought is violently derailed as you hit a cloud and everything goes dark and wet. The shock makes your whole body jerk, and suddenly what you take to be your right wing shoots out...

You scream in pain and surprise as your body starts tumbling even faster than before, and several hundred meters of altitude are lost before you stabilize and calm down. Okay, so that's how you move a wing.

Now just do it in a more controlled manner and on both sides simultaneously!
