In a room star star star star halfstar

The sign reads

"Welcome all new travellers.

To continue you must go through a series of doors.

After going through you will pick a costume. You will then become a half- human and half that creature.

After a week(100 mins a hour,20 hrs a day,10 days a week) has passed you may morph and get another costume. To start of with you will only be able to become 40% human to 60% human.

If you put on a costume you will then become that creature, be teleported to it's home town and have to wait a week before being able to morph.

After 50 costumes you may change into one of your other costumes and become 30% to 70% human. When changing costumes you must wait at least an hour before you can change costumes again.

100 different species/gender costumes allows you to gender-morph and become 20% to 80% human

200 different species costumes allows you to combine costumes and become 10% to 90% human

400 different species costumes allows you to return to your world with no more morphing

And 800 different species costumes makes a polymorph and allows you to morph outside of this world.

Also if you have a costume like a centaur then the human part will always be human and is counted towards the human percentage.

Any gender/species transformation magic of yours can only change your gender(if you have at least 100 costumes) and the animal part to a different animal.

When you change into a different costume (that you already have) you may teleport to that species home town but you will have the week penalty where you have no costume changes.

If you die while wearing a costume you will be reborn at the local inn (or appropriate location ). If you have more then 100 costumes you will lose the costume you had when you died and go to an appropriate place for your next costume.

If you fail to make it out in 100 years(100 weeks in a year) one of your possible forms will be chosen and you will be permanently stuck in that form(apart from magic) until you die. Also there will be no possibility of going back to your world.

Also, one final note: should you take a female form and become pregnant, you won't be able to change your gender until the child is born, though the other aspects of your form may change (the child will change to match.) That is all, and good luck!

You realise that you have to do what the sign said to do and go through the doors and grab a costume.

Selkie emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar

You stop in front of a particular costume, curiosity getting the better of you. It looks like a mermaid tail, but it’s slick, and brown with a very fine layer of fur. And the fish tail part looks like a single webbed flipper. A Sea lion? Or a seal? Either way, it’s only a tail, and you remember these costumes are still supposed to leave you part human.

But this doesn’t look the right size. And it doesn’t exactly look “leg shaped” like a mermaid tail. You pick it up, pinching it between your fingers as you look at the thing. Would it conform to you? Or would you conform to it? Looked like you’d have to discover for yourself.

You self-consciously glance over your shoulder at the door, then around the glass walls for any peeping eyes. Then you quickly set the tail back down so you can grab your shirt and slip it off. Your hands are trembling now that the moment is finally here, but you move fast to avoid anyone walking in on you changing.
But you hesitate at your bra clasp, realizing that there’s no seashells or anything to cover your top half. You bite your lip a moment before deciding to leave it on.

You grab the tail again, and by now your heart is pounding. You swallow nervously, and whip out the costume so you can open it up and step awkwardly into it. You rustle around the slick insides, shimmying it up and slipping your feet into the thick flippers of the costume. Only after you’re standing in it do you realize the top edges go well past your waist. You wonder if you’re suddenly going to grow another foot tall just to fit it.

Well, you’re about to find out.

An uncharacteristic sense of calm washes over you. Though your heart still pounds in your chest, your tremors have ceased. You release the tail. The fabric floats right where you left it, eerily still in the soft blue light of the deep ocean. A soft whoosh like a vacuum seals the costume to your body, like a wrinkled trash bag, before slowly expanding. It starts at your feet, like filling a water balloon. It is an apt metaphor, since the part of the tail filling with flesh is cold. It numbs your feet and up your calves, like the magical material is eating away at the human part of you to dissolve it into the tail.
You yelp as you fall, your support suddenly gone. You hold yourself up on your forearms, leering down your shoulder to watch in abject awe as the fabric swells up past your knees, up your thighs and hips to your waist.

As you watch the costume work, you realize the ‘tail’ actually reaches up to your chest. As the swelling rises, you hurriedly reach back to unhitch the clasp. You swipe off the straps, and tug it out of the costume just as the magic reaches your ribs.

You gasp, feeling slightly claustrophobic as the magical swelling presses against your lungs. Your chest cramps painfully before growing heavier with each gasp. You wince, a loud crack of your ribs terrifying you into thinking you’ve broken one. But the sound of snapping bones keeps going, and with each heave of your cracking ribs, your breaths get bigger, as your lungs expand along with the rest of your flesh. You reach to clutch your growing chest, in an instinctive urge to stave the panic.

But the transformation doesn’t stop at the edge of the costume like you assumed. That same feeling of your growing lungs is climbing up your throat, making your gasps bark and echo in the silence of the room. When it finally reaches your throat, you sigh in stunned relief, even as your head tingles. Blinking past the new, thick protective membrane of your eyes, a dark curl bounces in front of your eyes. You blink as more follow its lead, and quickly turn your head to peer down your back. Your hair- dark brown to match the tail- is growing at a shockingly accelerated rate. It folds in on itself and the curly, rolling mess tumbles down your back onto the floor.

And then the magic stops, bringing the room into eery calm once more. You glance down at your new body, blinking down at the large, plump curves of the seal.
No, not seal- selkie. The rim of the costume clings to your body like a sweetheart gown, and your breaths, though steady, fill your whole body deeper than ever before.

Then you blink, and shield your eyes from brilliant sunlight. Salt water and rotting seaweed assaults your nose, crying gulls scratch your ears, and a sharp, cold wind stings your face. You peer through your fingers hesitantly as your dark eyes adjust to the sudden change. Once they do, you can’t help but gasp in awe.
You’re on a shoreline, precariously perched on the edge of a short cliff. To your right, there’s a small, but bustling little town. Filled with many, as you note, women with thick, curly hair, ranging from dark to light brown, or light gray to black. To your left, the cresting waves foam at the shore.

Despite your worry and trepidation before, a new sense of excitement fills you, though it is dulled by pesky indecision. Should you head to the town? Or take this new body for a spin straight into the ocean?

Into the ocean emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar

It is after your transformation that your mind teases over your options. Each has it’s advantages and disadvantages, though in your current state as a Selkie you question if it is a good idea to walk among humans. Sure your form is more anthroish, but you doubt if humans might respond well to a Selkie suddenly walking among them. Yet, at the same time, you seem worried about the steep drop from the cliff side into the ocean.

What if there are rocks waiting at the bottom of the drop to smash your body to bits?

Then of course there is the matter of, the longer you debate, shifting uneasily upon the rocks, the longer you wait to find out what you can do with this new body. Your curious… it seems so strange that a costume could be filled with such magic. Yet here you are, looking upon your now feminine body with a smile. A hand brushes through those long, dark brown locks of hair you have as you thank whatever higher power above that your new body is something appealing. This is a bonus to the change of events that have taken over your life even if everything else seems a bit strange.

The minutes tick by before you finally give in to the desire to be in the water. The ocean seems the most natural place for you right now and so you edge closer to the cliff’s edge to gaze down at the salty water below. From what you can make out there doesn’t appear to be any rocks waiting for you below… perhaps you were just feeling a moment of paranoia and assuming the worst?

At least now you feel a little more settled about the idea of jumping into the ocean from here. You take a deep breath, aiming to steady yourself, and jump from the cliffside down to the water below. Moments later the cool, salty water of the ocean envelops your body.

You gasp upon reflex, a shiver going down your spine as your body begins to get used to the new temperature. The water welcomes you almost like a lover who has not seen you for some time. You feel at home, and figure that taking your new body for a spin could be a rather interesting and rewarding experience.

Back to the surface emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar

Out of habit you still break the surface, a bit nervous to see if you can breathe underwater just yet. You take a deep breath of air before looking back the way you’ve come.

There is nothing but the open sky above, the wide blue ocean around you, and that town off in the distance. Things feel peaceful and you find yourself relaxing. It is almost as if the world doesn’t even know your current body was brought about by changing into a costume… it just kept on going naturally.

A light laugh escapes you, revealing how happy you feel at the moment. Sure things are different, strange, and new… but this no longer seems to be a concern of yours. The odd pains you felt while transforming are a thing of the past too and you feel reinvigorated! You feel completely at home in your new skin, even if it might end up being temporary, including the gender change. It almost feels as though you were always made to be this way.

After another moment you dive below the surface once more, sliding through the water easily as you slip deeper and deeper into the depths of the ocean. Your tail moves you along easily, gaining speed as you start to explore this new world that lays before you. Some bubbles trail past your face as you breathe in awe; who on earth might have thought there was such a beautiful world under the surface of the ocean?

The new eyes that came with this transformation help with that of course; they are specially adapted to seeing in this element after all. Things appear even sharper to you than if you were wearing a paid of goggles and scuba gear. Excitement bubbled up within your chest as you saw some fish swimming in their schools. This world is your world now, you think to yourself. Who knows what other mystical things you might find out here. Another selkie, maybe? A mermaid?

A natural curiosity draws you forth, almost like a laser pointer might draw the attention of a common house cat. Your eyes are bright and alert, keeping focused on something in the distance. Whatever the creature was it seemed to be swimming in the same direction you were traveling in allowing it to get farther away.

Follow emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar

You furrow your brow, frustration washing over you as you use your tail to push a bit faster through the water. You keep on going, refusing to let this new quarry get away. You’re not sure why you feel drawn to whatever it is but you do know that you don’t want it to get away. There has to be some reason you’re drawn towards it! Now if only your new body could catch up to the other creature you’d be one happy selkie!

Your body begins to strain for all it’s worth when the figure in the distance enters what appears to be some underwater cave. Hope flickers in your chest at the thought of actually catching up. Maybe the cave is where the other creature, seemingly human-esc by how they swam, lived? That’s what you’re hoping anyway.

You continue on, and after a few more minutes you draw closer to the cave yourself. It seems to be dark within the main entrance but further along you’re pretty sure you can see the flicker of some sort of light. Could the light belong to the being you’re chasing, you wonder?

Or was something else causing the illumination?

At this thought you hesitate for a moment. Other things, like the potential danger this creature could pose if it was a threat, begin to stir in your mind. Maybe you should be more cautious instead of rushing headlong into this cave…

Into the Cave emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar

But for some reason you decide to follow after this light anyway, risk or not. Whether a rebel for the moment or if you’ve always been you’ve decided that you’re going to see the inquiry all the way through.

Once more you begin making your way along, heading into the cave with your tail swishing back and forth. You reach out, trailing your hand over the smooth stone of the cavern’s walls. This cave, you realize, must have been submerged for some time in order for the stone to be as smooth as it was.

After a few moments you get closer to the source of the light, slowing down a bit as you carefully move around a bend in the cavern before your dark eyes widen.

It is not at the creature you are staring, but rather the rocks that were softly shining within this point of the cave. This, you realize, must have been the cause of the illumination farther back.

But as you reach out to the glowing rocks you realize that you are not alone. A hand moves over your own and causes you to flinch. Your dark eyes turn towards the hand’s owner and you discover the one you were following wasn’t a sea critter at all! Instead you are face to face with a young, male diver wearing scuba gear.

His features, you notice, are fairer than your own. His skin is light and his hair a brilliant honey blonde. Behind the mask he wears you can make out the blue hues of his eyes.

Your heart skips a beat as you look into them.

Have you met an angel fallen from the world’s above?

For a long moment the two of you stare at each other, neither of you drawing back. You soon realize that he’s still holding onto your hand and a thought occurs to you.

Get to know him emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar

Maybe getting to know him wouldn’t be such a bad idea.

Interacting with a human one on one in this form definitely seems a lot more comforting than heading into town.

Once you make your decision you slowly start to swim backwards out of the cave, making sure to hold onto his hand in return so he knows that you want him to follow you. Every so often you look over your shoulder, offering a small smile to the male to encourage him to keep coming.

Before too long you both make it to the surface and the young man pulls his mask up so he can get a better look at you. It is then that you see the smattering of freckles upon his cheeks and the bridge of his nose.

He smiles; your heart skipping another beat.

“Hello there~” His voice is a smooth tenor, friendly and light. “You sure are a cutie, aren’t you?” He asks, reaching out to brush a hand upon your cheek.

“Do you speak English?” He asks, quirking a brow curiously.

A good question, you think you yourself. In this new form did you have the same language skills as before? Or had the magic of the costume altered that as well?

I think so emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar

“I think so…?” You slowly state in an unsure voice.

But once you hear the words leave your mouth you smile widely in excitement; you’re going to be able to communicate with him! Sure your voice was feminine and a touch squeaky, but surely he understood you, right?

“You’re a Selkie, aren’t you?” He asks, canting his head to the side.

He almost seems as curious about you as you are of him.

Is it a good thing he suspects what you are, you wonder? A bad thing, perhaps?

Should you be afraid of him?

You have no fear, however. You feel like, for some reason, you can trust this young man. He has a good aura around him.

“I am.” With a swish of your tail you proudly state that you are in fact a Selkie. Hell, if you didn’t know any better this could have been your first time interacting with a human.

“Do you have a name? Or will I be forced to call you ‘cutie’ from here on out?” His voice was teasing and you can’t help but crack a smile.

But as for the name question… you know you had once before, but thanks to the magic of the costume, or something else, you can’t seem to remember what it was. You lower your gaze almost guiltily and softly confess; “I don’t remember it.”

...Sleek emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar

The young man before you is not upset by this information and, in fact, lifts your chin so he can gaze into your eyes as he speaks in a reassuring tone.

“That won’t do at all! If you can’t remember your name I’ll just have to give you a new one~” He even sounded excited to have that chance.

“What about… Sleek?”

Sleek… you repeat this new name in your head. It does appear fitting for a Selkie, you think to yourself.

“Sounds good~” Your own tone reflects a happier one now and you feel even more excited about this new form you bear.

The young man then flashes another charming smile before he motions to the town you decided to avoid earlier.

“I live over there by the way. In the town by the oceanside. We’re some real nice folk if you ever want to pay us a visit.” There was a brief pause before he added; “My name is Cid by the way.”

Cid’s name, as well as your new one, were committed to your memory now. You glance towards the town too, though your brow furrows and a sigh escapes you. You still feel nervous about the idea of being around so many humans. At least out here, in the ocean, you feel like you can get away if there is any real danger or threat. It is almost like the water is acting as a security blanket around you.

Stay in the ocean emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar

Cid reads you expression easily enough, shaking his head. “Sorry… If you’re not sure about coming to the town I guess I’ll just have to come out and meet you instead~” With a playful grin reappearing on his face Cid leans forward and gently boops you on the nose.

“That is, if that’s okay with you?”

His words calm your racing thoughts and bring a smile back to your face as well. Before you stop to consider what you’re doing you swim closer to Cid and wrap your arms around his neck in a gentle embrace.

Cid responds in kind and wraps his arms around your middle, holding you close. You decide that this sort of interaction feels nice, and a rumbling noise of content leaves you. It is only your first day as a Selkie, yet you feel happy…

Was this meant to be?

You haven’t really given thought to if you might want to stay in this form just yet, or at least haven’t considered how long you’d want to be a Selkie. A female Selkie at that. You realize you don’t feel upset about that, however. Even if you’d been a male before you feel comfortable now…

…and it couldn’t hurt to remain in this form for at least a few days.

Make plans emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar

“Cid?” You utter his name softly, drawing back slowly from the embrace. “Do you really mean it when you say you’re going to come out to the ocean to meet me? How on earth will you find me? The ocean is a wide, blue world after all.” Your smile fades into a frown.

“What if we met at the same time each day?” Cid suggests, a grin appearing on his face. “We could meet when the sun is at it’s zenith… at the cave! Where the glowing rocks are!”

This seems to be an acceptable solution to the problem at hand. At least then you can be sure that you wouldn’t be looking for each other and swimming around lost.

“I’ll make sure to stay close then.” You promise.

“It’s a date~” Cid says jokingly, drawing back as well. “I hate to run, Sleek, but I should probably head home for today. I’ve been out here most of the morning so I’m sure my folks are probably starting to get a little anxious.”

You feel a flutter of uncertainty cross your mind once more. You don’t want Cid to leave, especially since he is your first friend in this form. If he doesn’t return home though his parents might think something bad happened to him. What if more humans came looking for him, found you, and hunted you down thinking you kidnapped him or something? No, you think, that wouldn’t do at all.

“A-Alright…”

Though you know you need to let Cid go you can’t help but want to stay near him. Again you look off towards the town, feeling yourself torn between going with Cid, just for a couple minutes, and waiting for him until tomorrow.

Watch Him Go emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar

Cid frowns, noticing your distress at the situation. “You weren’t expecting me to have to go so soon, were you?” He asked softly.

“No…” Your gaze lowers again. You don’t want to look at him and make him start to feel guilty about having to go home. Hell, you already feel guilty enough about the situation to cover both of you.

“Oh Sleek…” Cid reaches out, laying a hand upon your cheek. “You don’t need to be sad, okay? I
you I’ll be back tomorrow.” He drew back again, splashing a little water your way. “So cheer up~”

You can’t help but let out a little giggle as the water smacks against your body. You manage to lift your gaze back to Cid, seeing his gentle smile, and you feel reassured that he truly will be back for you.

“Alright… It’s a promise!”

You watch Cid as he makes his way back to the town, seeing his figure fade in the distance once more. Once he makes it to the shore you turn back towards the open waves of the ocean.

You’ve got the rest of the day ahead of you to explore with this new body… and you figure that you’ll need to find somewhere you can rest for the night as well. Food is another problem; has the magic of the costume made it so that you can eat raw fish? It’d make sense if it did, but you can’t help but worry that something might go wrong with this whole transformation business.

The next few days emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar

The next few days, you realize, are some of the happiest that you have ever experienced in your life. Your interactions with Cid are more than enjoyable… and when he comes out to greet you each day he even brings you a snack!

You are now on your fifth day as living as a Selkie… your memories of being a human are slowly being replaced by these new fond memories you have with Cid. You feel a little saddened each time he goes home, but after having made the cave where you met your own new home you feel confident he’ll keep coming to see you. This confidence builds all the more as each day he faithfully shows up, right on time.

But today, you realize, Cid is late. Your tail swishes thoughtfully from side to side, a bit of worry gnawing at you. This is unlike him, especially after he makes his promise at the end of each meeting to be back the next day.

Has something happened to him, you wonder?

You wait another minute, then two, gaze longingly focused on the bend in the rock.

But still Cid doesn’t show.

The worry you feel begins to grow worse as your mind begins to think of things that have potentially happened to him. Slowly you shift from the floor and make your way towards the entrance of the cave.

Once there you peer around, but still there is no sign of Cid. You furrow your brow and glance towards the direction of the town, pondering your options.

You could always try going to going to the town yourself. The thought scares you a little bit but what if Cid is hurt or something? You’d feel even worse if he was in a situation you could have helped him with.

You’re scared, there was no doubt about that. But you have grow close to Cid since you’ve come here. It would feel wrong, so very wrong, to just ignore the fact that his pattern was broken. Even if going into town might put you at risk with the humans should they, for whatever reason, decide a Selkie is not welcome among them.

To the outside of the town emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar emptystar

Not wanting to waste any more time you kick off the sandy bottom of the ocean and start towards the surface. Maybe, you try to think optimistically, Cid was just late and that was all. Why did there necessarily need to be something wrong, you wonder to yourself?

You move through the water just as easily as before, if not more so as you make your way towards the shoreline. After a minute or two you hit the surface, glancing around to see if maybe, just maybe, you can see Cid making his way through the water.

But he’s not there…

You glance towards the town and find relief in seeing that it is still standing. That is where your friend lives… if something had happened to it while you were peacefully down in your cave…

You shake your head, not wanting to think about stuff like that. You can’t afford to to think like that. Besides, you try to reassure yourself, Cid is probably fine. There are more reasons for someone to break a promise than if something was majorly wrong. You’re probably just being paranoid.

With a few good swishes of your tail and limbs through the water you begin to travel, your mind focused on but one thing; getting close enough to the town to see if you can spot Cid. You silently begin to question once more why you feel so attracted to him… Is it because of your now feminine body? Or is something else drawing you to the friendly young man?

When you arrive near the shore you can make out the figures of several of the towns people gathering around and, though still being cautious, you curiously watch them. They seem to be gathering for something, you realize, seeing more people join them over time. But what, you wonder? You don’t recall Cid mentioning any sort of gathering with his townsfolk… unless you’ve simply forgotten?

No… that couldn’t be the case.

You slip below the surface once more, easing a bit closer to the shore. There are so many strangers there, so many faces you don’t know, and a knot of nervousness has begun to form in your belly. Your brow furrows, a deep frown on your face as you come to a stop once more.

Whatever is going on, you think to yourself, you don’t like it. It’s probably the reason why Cid hadn’t been able to come out and greet you in the ocean today.

Then, at long last, you breathe out in relief as your eyes fall upon none other than Cid himself. He looks fine, thank goodness, though a tad bit frustrated too. Is he upset because he hadn’t been able to come out and see you? Or is there something else that is troubling his mind?
