I gave up about 3 stories into the book. Other then some small physical changes the transformation has no effect on the plot.
I think my biggest problem with the book is shown by one of the plots of the second book. The main character in a flashback was treated poorly by a monk. This monk reappears in the story and is quickly dealt with by the dragons. Looking back all the plots are handled without any sense of danger.
Another problem was I ended up forgetting about a character which meant I had no idea who they were, once they were brought up again
Overall their are much better transformation books and much better dragon rider books
