He is 'recruited' by a feline god and gains the ability to change into a feline champion form in addition to the base form for the world
Book 2 is probably the best book for transformations sort of being a retelling of the Odyssey backwards.
Book 4 probably is the weakest of the four and is probably easy to skip
From a transformation point of view though another one that only gets on because of a lack of other stories
