The transformations in the book except for one case is irrelevant to the plot. Also are a number of sex scenes but thankfully not a major part and easily skippable.
Plot wise every character has their own goals. Despite their being many characters you can tell them apart from each other.
Story wise I enjoyed reading it. The world building gives you enough details without pouring it on.
For a general story I might rate this a high 3 if it was not for the sex scenes. If you do not mind this I would recommend this book if you have a bit of time to kill.
